Introducing a Better TOEFL iBT® Test ExperienceThe English-language test that helps you show admissions officers your best is getting even better! Beginning August 1, 2019, you will benefit from an improved TOEFL iBT® test experience with a shorter test, enhanced score reporting and easier registration. Here’s how.

A Shorter Test

TOEFL iBT test time will be shortened by 30 minutes, to just 3 hours, with no changes to the overall test format or question types. In other words, it’s the same fair, reliable, preferred test, just with fewer questions in the Reading, Listening and Speaking sections. You can still finish the test in half a day with no need to return for a second day.

Here is a summary of the test changes:

My Opinion

MyBest Scores

This new feature combines your best scores for each section from all of your valid TOEFL iBT scores in the last 2 years. Everyone has a bad day once in a while, and MyBest scores give you a way to show your best overall test performance. The best news? You don’t have to do anything to take advantage of this feature. All TOEFL iBT score reports sent after August 1, 2019, regardless of the test administration date, will automatically include MyBest scores along with the traditional scores from your selected test date, like this:

This image shows a single student test score where scores for reading, listening, speaking, writing and a total score are shown on the left, and the right image is showing the test takers MyBest score for each section from all of their valid TOEFL scores in the last 2 years.
